Rules and Scoring
WorldJoust Tournaments usually include three segments of competition: Joust, Foot combat and Club Tourney. Points earned throughout the competition are totalled to determine the overall tournament victor. The judging staff also selects a competitor who exemplifies the Knightly virtues to receive a Chivalry prize.

WorldJoust Tournaments utilize an elegant joust scoring system devised by founder Jeffrey Hedgecock and derived from historical examples. Competitors score points by striking their opponent's shield or body using a wooden lance trying to break as much of it as possible. More points are awarded for accurate hard strikes and breaking more of the lance.

Foot combat is usually fought with blunted longswords or pollaxes, with the winning combatant being first to land the specified number of solid blows on their opponent, disarming him, or bearing him to the ground. Combatants receive points for each bout won.

The Club Tourney is fought on horseback in full armour with clubs similar to baseball bats in size and weight. In two teams, combatants maneuver around the field striking members of the opposing team, displaying their horsemanship and martial prowess. A "Lady of Honour" leads a panel of female judges in ranking the performance of each combatant and points are awarded based on placement.

Tournament Formats
WJT events follow varying formats, sometimes organized as individual competitions or team events. Team events sometime see two teams of three competitors face each other, or as with the upcoming Tournament of the Phoenix-2011, three teams of two men each will compete, each team captained by a member of the Order of the Crescent. There are many formats possible in WJT events, and it is our goal to create innovative, enjoyable and above all -fair- competitions.
